[va-bird] Anhinga in Rockbridge County

Hello all,
Tad Finnell called to let me know he had an Anhinga at Lake Robertson in
Rockbridge County this morning around 10:30. He was standing on the dam
and first saw the bird fly by at eye level. It then circled up and he
watched it for 3-5 minutes before it went out of view. It appeared to
him that it was heading for the north end of the lake. Lake Robertson
is a state recreation area a little west of Lexington. Here's a webpage
for reference.

HISTORY AND OTHER AREA ATTRACTIONS
Lake A. Willis Robertson
Recreation Area, named for the late Senator Robertson, who
devoted many years as public servant and conservationist of
our natural resources, is the result of a coordinated effort
of local, state and federal organizations concerned with
outdoor recreation. The 581 acre tract located 14 miles west
of Lexington, Virginia on the eastern slopes of the
Alleghany Mountains, is surrounded by an abundance of
wildlife in a beautiful, quiet, natural environment. It
is close to the Thomas
Jefferson and George Washington National
Forests and is near to the
Goshen Wildlife Refuge Management Area. Nearby are
Natural
Bridge, Goshen
Pass, and the birthplaces
of Sam
Houston and Woodrow Wilson.
The area also boasts the home of the first McCormick
reaper, tombs of
Robert
E. Lee and Stonewall
Jackson, Washington
and Lee University, the
Virginia
Military Institute and many
other historical attractions.
