I saw around 11 am this morning a Great Horned Owl in the woods about a hundred
yards from our monastery. I was just walking along counting the Acadian
Flycatchers etc... and saw a very large raptor glide noiselessly to a pine snag
a hundred feet ahead, where it sat and hooted rather softly. It switched
branches a couple of times and gave me excellent looks for 15 minutes or so.
Just an hour before this I spotted a male Sharp-shinned Hawk trying to escape
from an irate pair of Robins.
