Took the long way home from VA Beach so I could stop by Chincoteaque - (4th
of July weekend may not be the best time to visit, but I take what I'm given) -
stopped on the CBBT islands just to see if anyone was headed south yet...on
the 4th Island, at the southern tip, just off the rocks, was one lone Surf
Scoter - immature male...this was on Saturday, around 10am -
Chincoteaque helped fluff up my VA list... a few Tricolored Heron and at
least 2 Little Blue present in the Snow Goose Pool among the 200 or so Glossy
Ibis, 50 snowy egrets and many Great Egrets- everyone had their heads down in a
feeding frenzy, so looking for a white-faced had to wait. Least Terns also
working the Snow Goose pond and approx 60 Skimmers in the flats across the road
from the Toms' Cove visitor center...Rich Rieger
