[va-bird] Lake Anna, July 21-26

Hello--

We spent a wonderful week at Lake Anna in central Virginia. Seems as if very 
few people post bird sightings from that area, so I thought I’d share what I 
found, even though it may be a little mundane for some (not for me, I was 
really grooving on having all that free time to go birding!).  I spent most of 
my birding time hiking along Haleys Mill Road (Spotsylvania County), which 
provided a great mixture of oaks, cedars, maples, farmland, ponds, and cleared 
timberland; and one morning in nearby Lake Anna State Park on the Old Mill Pond 
Trail.  Here’s six days worth of birds:

Mallard mama and six ducklings
Great Blue Heron--4
Red-Tailed Hawk--1
Bald Eagle--1
Turkey Vulture--5
Mourning Dove--many
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird--1
Belted Kingfisher--1
Red-Bellied Woodpecker--2
Eastern Kingbird--family of 4
Eastern Peewee--heard many, saw none!
Purple Martin--5
Barn Swallow--3
Chimney Swift--12
American Crow--10
Blue Jay--4
Carolina Chickadee--10
Tufted Titmouse--2
White-Breasted Nuthatch--2
Carolina Wren--2
Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher--many
Brown Thrasher--1
Gray Catbird--2
Northern Mockingbird--2
Wood Thrush--3
Hermit Thrush--1
Cedar Waxwing--6
Red-Eyed Vireo--2
Yellow-Throated Vireo--1
Common Yellowthroat--3
Red-Winged Blackbird--1
Common Grackle--many
Eastern Meadowlark--3
Northern Cardinal--5
American Goldfinch--many
Blue Grosbeak--1
Indigo Bunting--3
Eastern Towhee--3

If anyone else birds in that area and could recommend a few good birding spots 
in the Lake Anna area that are publicly accessible, please let me know.
