[va-bird] Fox & Grackles

This evening a little before 8 PM while it was still good daylight when I came
home I noticed a red fox in the hay field in front of my house moving along a
fence line next to an adjoining corn field. I got my binocs and started
watching the fox which was about 150 yards away. It was obviously stalking
something in the edge of the corn field which I supposed to be maybe a rabbit
or a mouse. Shortly the fox started barking and momentarily a flock of
Grackles burst up in a roar from the cornfield frightening the fox making it
jump back a little distance. Then the fox started barking again while intently
watching where the Grackles had flown from before losing interest and leaving.
Has anyone seen a fox do anything like this? I often hear them bark at night,
but this is the first time I ever saw one bark, apparently trying to flush it's
intended prey out in the open.
