Greetings...

I searched for the White Ibis this morning from about eight-fifty until
nine-thirty and did happen to find it. Fortunately I was looking in the
wrong place for the bird, since that's where Sue was looking and didn't find
it. I misunderstood Laura's message from 28 June regarding the location of
the bird. I thought the bird was along Young's Branch, so that's where I
looked. Turns out it was indeed along Young's Branch, high in a dead tree.
There is a fair amount of white wash under the tree, suggesting that the bird
spends a bit of time in it. The tree is just past the dry pond where it had
been, near a pool that is surrounded by cattails. There are four or five
tall dead trees in the area. I walked a couple hundred yards of Young's
Branch and there are several pools that the ibis may be using to feed in.
You can actually see these dead trees from the parking spots at the gate, but
you sort of need to know where to look. The ibis flew before I left, so I
couldn't test whether the bird can be seen from the car.

There might be a price to pay if anyone decides to look along the stream.
I've pulled off no fewer than forty deer ticks since I walked away. I've
showered and scrubbed, and I'm still getting about one an hour or so. Also
came across as big a black snake as I have seen; it too was along the stream.

Blue Grosbeak, Orchard Oriole, Field Sparrow Song Sparrow, and Goldfinch were
all singing from the ibis spot. Pewee, Scarlet Tanager, Red-eyed Vireo, and
Indigo Buntings were singing nearby.

Cheers...

Todd
