[va-bird] Protecting duck eggs

My brother-in-law has a mallard who annually lays eggs in the
planters that abut his home on a lake in Virginia Beach. Each year
the eggs are eaten (she's a very slow learner)! Is there a way to
protect the eggs from predators?

Good birding,
