Had a great weekend of summer birding. My first trip ever to Blandy
Experimantal Farm on Saturday and it was a great day with fabulous looks at
almost 40 species. There were tons of catbirds, goldfinch, chipping
sparrows, and more bluebirds than I thought possible in one day. Highlights
included a kestrel, a promenading pair of bobwhite, one singing Grasshopper
sparrow, and about four meadowlarks on the stone wall near the large private
residence. I also saw my first Red-headed woodpecker on a roadside
telephone pole.
Monticello was slow and hot on sunday afternoon, but I did see a lone
White-throated Sparrow bathing in the stream.

CF Smith was hot, as it was mid-day. I saw a fox on the circular garden
path behind the house. There are a couple of nests under the porces near
where the feeders usually are - they are made of moss and shaped like
hollowed mounds. Any clue as to what made these nests? I did see a pair of
Phoebes hawking in the area.
