I'm glad someone finally found the Whistling-Ducks in VA!  They were all around 
us.  I have been checking some area ponds in northern VA for the past week with 
no luck, though Roaches Run in Arlington seems like a good possible place.
   
  Perhaps the best way to "get" the birds is when they are flying around at 
night.  I heard them in Texas and Florida this year in decent-sized flocks 
starting at dusk but I only found a few at a time during the day.  This link is 
all I could find that has a recording of the BBWD.  It plays automatically 
after a few seconds.
