[va-bird] It's a jungle out there now

The jungle is not just in the tropics. It?s here in Virginia too, keeping
alive the summer residents we describe in daily VA Birds entries. Every time I
walk through local forests these days, I see images similar to those of forests
I have trod overseas: lush, overlapping green leaves on majestic trees, the
equally deep shade of morning & evening, the sheer, simple intensity of the
landscape, echoes of tropical bird calls.
That landscape has a thick green carpet, the verticality of brown tree trunks,
and indirect light emphasizing that green-upon-brown. It?s especially lovely
earlier in the morning & later in the evening. In the morning the forest is
pierced serendipitously by misty spots of light and temperately noisy with
birdsounds; in the evening the light is clearer but soft (the sun tired from a
day or work?) & birdsounds more rare. It is a thing of peace & simplicity.
We share our local jungles of choice with neo-tropical birds which follow their
jungles of choice north & then south. Enjoy!
