On Saturday June 5th the Lynchburg Bird Club held its 31st annual Breeding
Bird Count, during which 15 groups covered the Lynchburg Christmas Bird
Count circle. Although several reports are not in yet, one highlight
includes a singing and calling Yellow-bellied Flycatcher seen along the
James River at the end of Route 787 (Salt Creek Road) in Amherst County by
Mike Boatwright. This is the fourth county record, and the second spring
record for the county. A more complete summary of the count will be posted
when all of the reports are in.

This morning (6/8) while running the Gladys Breeding Bird Survey route I
came across three Dickcissels in Campbell County, two singing males and one
female. They were on Route 650 just north of the intersection with Route
651, about 1.5 miles ENE of the town of Gladys on Route 501. I also heard
one or more singing Bobolinks at the beginning of the route in the NE corner
of Pittsylvania County, at the intersection of Routes 761 and 639.
