[va-bird] Common Moorhen, White Pelican, Least Bitterns at Back Bay

I got up bright and early (well, actually it was dark
and early) to go to Back Bay. For those of you who
don't know, the gate does not open until 6am, so
arriving earlier as I did gives you no extra brownie
points.

Once I got in, I walked the West Dike road until I
reached the woods where the deeflies get serious
(before False Cape) It was a nice, not-too-warm
morning and I saw some nice birds; best for me was an
overdue state Common Moorhen, easily seen from the
road within 10 feet. In the midst of a big group of
white egrets was a lone White Pelican complete with
the knobby thing on his bill (scientific jargon). Also
a treat was hearing at least 6 Least Bitterns and
seeing one at close range; I also enjoyed beautiful
looks at 3 (silent) bright red King Rails. A female
Red-breasted Merganser near the dike surprised me.
