Made a quick tour of Craney Island in Portsmouth, Va. this morning. Two =
Black-necked Stilts were in the the northwest corner of the south =
impoundment. A couple hundred peep were also in the south impoundment, =
all of which appeared to be Semipalmated or Least Sandpipers. Add in a =
couple of Willets and a few Semipalmated Plovers and that was about it =
for shorebirds. Terns were represented by Gull-billed, Least, Royal, and =
Common. One Black Skimmer was also present. Most suprising bird of the =
morning was a singing Willow Flycatcher, who repeated his sneezy song =
several times from the low bushes on the south side of the south dike. =
I think this was the first of that species I've ever encountered at =
Craney. =20
