Birds and birders were in shorter supply this morning, despite the
beautiful weather. Migrants were few and far between - but I guess it
is June after all. Highlights of those seen are listed below. I
believe Fred Bogar will be posting a complete listing.
1 imm. Cooper's hawk
1 peep in adult basic plumage (see below)
1 northern parula
1 chestnut-sided warbler
Some of the regulars:
green heron, great egrets
barn, tree, and nrw swallows
mallards, hooded mergansers, wood ducks - each with young
kingbirds, great crested flycatchers, pewees, phoebes, and acadian
flycatchers
indigo buntings, house finches, goldfinches
common yellowthroats
white-breasted nuthatches, downy, hairy, red-bellied, and pilieated
woodpeckers
ruby-throated hummers
eastern towhee (singing)
The peep: Until I can reconcile some field notes with my references,
I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on this one. But my gut tells me this
bird was a western sandpiper. The bird gave us excellent scope views as
it sat on a mudflat just in front of the elevated portion of the
boardwalk in the center of the marsh.
