Va-bird,

I went out to Bull Run Post Office Rd. (Fairfax County) this afternoon for
the first time this season. Development is quickly encroaching on the area,
but all of the "good" birds for the county are still around in seemingly
good numbers. One other interesting change is that some of the hedgerows
bordering the large field near the powerline cut have been removed. This
might hurt wintering sparrow numbers, but proved advantageous for seeing
into the field. The highlights included:

Wild Turkey - 1 in the clearing near the cul-de-sac at the end of Sudley
Forest Ct. It quickly flew south down the cut in the Red Cedars. This
seems like a decent location for turkey but is the first I've had here.

Wiilow Flycatcher - 2; a pair moving around the corner of Running Post Ct.
and BRPO Rd. One bird was calling fairly consistently from the edge of the
marshy area in the same field that held the Harris's Sparrow a few winters
ago.

Northern Bobwhite - at least one bird heard calling near the intersection of
Running Post Ct. and BRPO Rd.

There were several Yellow-breasted Chats (calling wildly) scattered across
the area and a single House Wren as well. Prairie Warblers, Indigo
Buntings, Field Sparrows, and Common Yellowthroats are all abundant. Brown
Thrashers and Eastern Towhees are easily found in the cedars. A single
Red-tailed Hawk and Great Blue Heron were recorded as flyovers.

Have a good one,
Alex
