Three light adult Parasitic Jaegers went through the south channel of the
Chesapeake Bay bridge-tunnel and into the Bay between 8 and 8:30 a.m. today,
May 6th. The northeast wind was tremendously strong, shaking the car and
splashing ocean water on it as I watched from the first island for about 2
hours.
Hundreds of Northern Gannets were speeding past. Some of the other birds were
Forster's Terns, Least Terns, Royal Terns, Common Loons, 3 Snowy Egrets,
dozens of unidentified shorebirds, 2 Black Scoters, a few Barn Swallows and a
Merlin.
The last week of April and the first week of May are very reliable times to
see migrating Parasitics from the CBBT, with 1-2 hours of scanning.
A light adult Parasitic went though the channel at about 7:30 p.m. this
evening with the wind still howling. I scanned for about 45 minutes.
