VA-Birders,

I birded the Lorton area, including Sandy Run Park, Occoquan Regional Park,
the Fairfax County Landfill, and other spots today in my area of the 2007
Fairfax County Spring Count.  I later also visited Great Falls NP.  I found
the day to have started quite slow, adding species and individuals in dribs
and drabs, creating a decent list by noon.  Migrants were somewhat at a
premium, but Acadian Flycatchers are back in numbers.  Below are some
highlights:

Fairfax County Landfill (by permission):
-Observed two SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER among other
shorebirds including Greater Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper, and least
Sandpipers at two of the drainage ponds at perimeter of landfill cap.  2-3
pairs of Killdeer with young in tow.
-24!! Grasshopper Sparrows
-18 Eastern Meadowlarks
-2 Bobolinks
-White-crowned Sparrow (singing)
-3 Savannah Sparrows

Areas along Lorton and Furnace Roads held multiples of Bobolinks and
Grasshopper Sparrows

Black-crowned Night Heron at Great Falls (flying from VA side to MD)
