All,
Birded Eastern Rockingham County and Grand Caverns which I believe to be
just barely in Augusta county. Grand Caverns was pretty decent with FOY for
Blackthroated Blue, Chestnut-sided, and Kentucky Warbler, plus two
Yellow-billed Cuckoos.
In Rockingham County I was fortunate to get scope views on a Grasshopper
Sparrow on backroad to Leonard's Pond near intersection with 955 or is it
905? Leonards Pond was dead for the most part with just a single Yellowlegs
present and 2 Killdeer. The Pond at Green Valley Auction was really busy
with lots of Shorebirds but just 4 species that I could detect; Solitary,
both Yellowlegs and Spotted.
There is a Wetlands area along Port Republic Road between 340 and the
Shenandoah National Park on your right near a cemetary. This looks to be
excellent habitat but I have never found any birds there of note til today
when I heard but did not see 2 Soras. Madison Run was dead for some reason
but the back road between Madison Run and Island Ford was decent.
Sincerely,
William Leigh
