Howdy all,
Today turned out to be another good day at the banding station. We ended the
day with a total of 65 new birds banded. Also had a recapture of a GREAT
CRESTED FLYCATCHER from last year. We caught our first MAGNOLIA WARBLER this
morning as well. We heard our first YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO and saw our first
SWAINSON'S THRUSH as well.
As a bit of a surprise, we caught a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. Have not seen one
is a week plus around the station. We banded 7 species of warblers with
BLACK-AND-WHITE and BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS leading the way.
Forgot to mention that we caught a bat yesterday morning. My guess is Little
Brown Bat. It's was the smallest bat I have personally seen in the hand.
Here are the totals for 5/5:
Magnolia Warbler 1 first of the season
Hooded Warbler 1
Black-and-white Warbler 5
Black-throated Blue Warbler 6
Common Yellowthroat 3
Yellow-rumped Warbler 2
Northern Waterthrush 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Red-eyed Vireo 2 first of the season
Indigo Bunting 2
White-throated Sparrow 3
Veery 4
Summer Tanager 1 first of the season
Gray Catbird 32 yes, they are in!
TOTAL ------------------------------- 65
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
