April at College Creek Hawkwatch ended with nearly a week of very strong
northeast winds and little migration, except for swallows. Yesterday morning,
April 30th, wind chills were in the 20s. We were able to provide coverage on 24

days in April, which compares to 26 days in March, so we are getting a pretty
accurate picture of the bird movement here. The season total is a very
respectable 1327, not far from the season record 1445 set last year, which we
will surely break.

Turkey Vultures typically slow down in May and we will be watchful for
Broad-wingeds and kites as the temperature and humidity rise dramatically.

College Creek Hawkwatch is located on the James River near Williamsburg and
is a program of Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory.
