Hello Va-Birders,

This afternoon I spent some time at Potomac Overlook Park in Arlington.  I was 
delighted to find a very handsome GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, first observed 
scratching in the leaf litter then flitting up to a low branch of a sapling.  
It was silent for most of the time I was observing it, but then gave a somewhat 
quiet burst before flying off.  I thought I heard one yesterday at Riverbend, 
but I never got to see it and only heard part of a call.

It was Thrush central there today.  Also observed were 9 WOOD THRUSHES, two 
SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, and a VEERY.  No Hermits.  For the record, there were also 
a few ROBINS but no Bluebirds.

The exact area at the park these thrushes were seen was fairly close to the 
main entrance.  As you approach the park, there is a large parking lot off to 
the right.  Park there, and walk directly across the street to an overgrown 
path with a small chain "gate" labeled something like "Wildlife Preserve."  
Walk that path until you reach a T.  Make that left and walk down the hill 
about 50 yards.  Somewhat of a ravine is on your right.  Most of the Thrushes 
were quietly flying around down there and can be fairly easily observed.  Feel

P.S.  A stop at CF Smith Park in Arlington netted a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW among 
perhaps a dozen White-throats, a YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, three HOODED WARBLERS 
(one seen at perhaps 3 feet thanks to pishing), and a BTG WARBLER.
