[va-bird] Northern Waterthrush push

Hi VA-Birders,
Ralph Wall and I birded a portion of the trail along the Potomac at Riverbend
Park in Fairfax County early this morning. Upon getting out of my car at 6:30
AM, the first bird I heard was a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER singing proudly at the top
of a large sycamore. We finally got a look at it when it moved a little. We
tallied 12 warbler species. Of note was the high number of NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSHES. We came across four in a span of less than 1/2 mile along the
trail, all ID'd by song. Therefore, there were probably others around that
were not singing. They actually outrnumbered LA Waterthrush. Their push is on.
On a final note: Like many places, getting there early for migrants is
essential. We were walking out at 7:45 and noticed a considerable drop-off in
the activity.
