I made a quick stop at Murray's Pond in Roanoke County this afternoon and was
surprised to find all six swallow species plus swifts. PURPLE MARTIN, BANK
SWALLOW and CLIFF SWALLOW were represented by single individuals. There were
approximately 25 ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, 15 BARN SWALLOWS, and 5 TREE SWALLOWS.
Also in the mix were 15 CHIMNEY SWIFTS. In 35 years of birding I think this
might be a first for me.
