Banding was cancelled at Occoquan this morning, so I stopped in at Ft. Smith
park. The path
down into the woods was full of WOOD THRUSHES, VEERIES, HERMIT THRUSHES and
CARBIRDS. There
was also a vigorously singing WORM-EATING WARBLER. Other good birds
included GREAT-CRESTED
FLYCATCHER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, OVENBIRD, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. There
was a female
PURPLE MARTIN sitting on one side of the Martin House, and alas, a HOUSE
SPARROW on the
other side.
