[va-bird] Cattle Egret, Fauquier; Hensow's search Culpeper 6-7 May

Greetings,
There was a Cattle Egret in a pasture just west of US 17 today (7 May) at
noon (and also as I type, per Sue Heath). The pasture is directly across the
highway from Liberty High School, just north of the intersection of US 17 and
VA
28. I spotted this bird as I drove past, and when I swung back around to see
it again, I couldn't refind it. I was shocked that it had left in about three
minutes, until I saw it standing on top of a brown and white donkey. I drove
to that side of the pasture to try to get a picture of it, but the bird had
hopped off the mule and was now under it. It flushed as I stopped, heading to
another part of the pasture. I did manage to get a few pictures eventually.

By plumage this was a different individual than the bird Sue and I saw in
Culpeper County 2 May. This bird has extensive orange on the breast, whereas
the
bird from Sunday only had it atop the head. So there's at least two kicking
around. This is the first Cattle Egret I know about for Fauquier.

Last night (6 May) I spent seventy-five minutes beginning at six-fifteen at
the spot where Mike Boatwright had a Henslow's Sparrow on 5 May at Rapidan in
Culpeper County. I had no luck refinding this bird.

Birds in the area included a singing Yellow Warbler, a singing and seen
Grasshopper Sparrow, 4 Orchard Orioles, 2 Prairie Warblers, and a bunch of
other
stuff that to me is less exciting.

Cheers,

Todd
