[va-bird] Blue Budgerigar, King St. Metro, Alexandria

VA-BIRDers:

Early Wednesday afternoon I spotted a blue budgerigar (parakeet) associating
with a flock of House Sparrows along a strip of grass at the King St. Metro
parking lot, Alexandria. The budgerigar mostly stuck closely to this flock
whether foraging on the ground or taking off for brief flights.

A chainlink fence runs between the parking lot and the station itself. As you
face the station from the lot, the birds were off to the far right, especially
feeding below a sapling in the grass border strip. This would be to the right
of the lane where the taxis stand.

This is my first encounter with an obviously escaped pet bird.
