[va-bird] Yard Hummingbird Story and Shenandoah Mt.

This morning while filling one my bird baths with a garden hose a Ruby-throated
Hummingbird suddenly appeared and started bathing under the water streaming
from the hose. It continued this for some time and seemed to take pure delight
in getting a bath. When I would stop the flow and then start again the hummer
would get right back under the stream. In fact it was so soaked that when it
landed on a nearby bush it toppled over backwards momentarily before taking
flight. Once it came where I could almost reach and touch it. I have often
seen hummingbirds attracted to running water, but never saw one deliberately
get under a flowing hose and take a bath.
Now for Shenandoah Mountain going toward Reddish Knob from Bridgewater. This
morning about half way up the mountain Tom Mizell and I had super looks at two
male Scarlet Tanagers, a pair of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, an Ovenbird and a
Pine Warbler. Near the top of the mountain where the foliage is barely started
we had great looks at pair of Blackburnian Warblers and a female
Black-throated Blue Warbler. Also saw three Blue-headed Vireos near and at the
top. Heard three N. Parulas near the foot of the mountain on the way back.
