Hello all
Just got back in from my property out off of Rt 254 west where I went in search
of a Turkey Vultures nest . The last couple of years a T V has nested at my
property . But all of the blackberry vines & tree saplings made it hard to find
. I struck out on the T V but while I was out there I checked out the Bluebird
boxes . Boxes 2 & 4 were empty & boxes 1 & 3 were occupied . Box 3 had 5
Bluebird eggs & box 1 had a Carolina Chickadee sitting on the nest . This same
box last year hosted a Carolina Chickadee who had 11 eggs & 9 birds fledged .
After getting this tiny bird to move to see how many eggs she had , to my
surprise she had 7 little ones that had just hatched out today & 2 eggs that
have not hatched as of yet . After leaving my property I checked out a small
pond off of National Ave. about a half mile from Rt250 in the city limits of
Staunton . You would turn on N. Center Dr. & follow it to the end . There I
found two Pied -- billed Grebes . I will keep a check on these birds for
nesting if they would stay around .
Other birds seen today while at work were as follows at a day care center
behind DMV in Staunton .
Wood Thrush
Blue -- winged Warbler
Yellow -- rumped Warbler
Indigo Bunting
Allen Larner
Staunton
