A few (3-5) years ago a pair of Mallards nested in one of the landscaped area
in the parking lot of Wild Birds Unlimited on Midlothian Blvd. in Richmond.
Again, there was no water nearby and the nest was located in a section
containing tall trees with azalea bushes providing cover close to the ground.
I
don't remember if the eggs hatched but it was an unusual location. Perhaps one
of
the other birders on this listserv has information on the hatch rate.
