Jim Foxworth and I birded Dutch Gap on this beautiful morning and saw wood
ducks as I have never seen them.

The wood duck family was arranged on a log behind the beaver lodge near the
overlook at the parking lot. The ducklings..14 of them..were sitting in a row
with the mother at one end. The drake was swimming back and forth in front of
them. He looked like a very proud papa.

Is it unusual to have 14? I have never seen that many at one time.

Two RS Hawk chicks were sticking their fuzzy little heads up. We later saw and
adult flying in with a snake about 2 feet long.

We were unable to see the Osprey chicks but there was a lot of activity around
the nest and it appeared that the adult was feeding little ones but couldn't be
sure.
