VA Birders,
Pat Blyer, Betty Kilgore, and I went birding at Fort C. F. Smith Park,
Arlington Co., about 10:00 am this morning. Highlights of our trip were a
group of 11 Common Loons which flew over the park, a Scarlet Tanager singing
in bare branches at the top of a Sycamore, and the newly arrived male Indigo
Bunting, which serenaded us and provided great looks for most of the time we
were there. Half a dozen Cedar Waxwings and a Great Blue Heron being pursued
by a crow were also noteworthy among the 33 species we counted in 2.5 hours
at the park.
