I walked the Fredericksburg Canal Path from the community center to
Embrey Dam this morning and had quite a time. I had 53 species, including
2 male Scarlet Tanagers, a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 5 Orchard Orioles,
5 Baltimore Orioles, 11 Red-eyed Vireos, 3 White-eyed Vireos, 6 Northern
Parulas, 6 Yellow Warblers, 9 Yellow-rumps, 1 Blackpoll (heard), a male
Redstart, 3 Prothonotary Warblers (I think a pair are nesting near FOR
headquarters), 4 Common Yellowthroat, and a Blue-winged Warbler! I had
good looks at the Blue-winged, which sang nicely for me. It is a first
for me in the Fredericksburg area.
