Hi VA Birders,
While checking duck boxes on Sunday morning (for those interested, a report
follows), a Virginia Rail was calling steadily on the left side of the main
boardwalk just past where the boardwalk splits.
So far this year, we have fledged two full broods of Hooded Mergansers and
also had one full clutch of 14 merg eggs fail ;>(. All three merg nests
were in the boxes downstream beyond the tower. We have also fledged two
boxes of Wood Ducks, and currently still have three boxes with incubating
Wood Ducks. Interestingly, on Sunday we saw a pair of Canadas with one
gosling and one baby Wood Duck in tow.
