Hi y'all;
Found three new birds for our campus list this
morning in the 1/2 hour before school.
1 Lincoln's Sparrow
1 Blackburnian Warbler (singing)
1 Least Flycatcher (singing)
Surprisingly these birds, as well as the field
sparrow, Nashville warbler, most of the myrtles,
and the Tennessee warbler that were present in
the morning could not be found anywhere in the
vicinity, even at neighboring Oak Marr Park in
the evening (4:30-6PM) so I am wondering if they
left for the north country during the day.
A female ruddy duck which has been here for a
week is still around at the drainage pond this
afternoon, as are 1 spotted sandpiper, 2 solitary
sandpiper, and 2 savannah sparrows.
5 black vultures and an osprey flew north over
the campus while I watched the varsity baseball
game this afternoon.
A pair of geese with 4 new yellow fluffling
chicks appeared at the pond, but I have no idea
where they came from. I could not find a nest on
campus. Does anyone have any idea of how far
from a body of water they will nest, or how far
they will lead their babies from where they were
hatched?
I hope you have a great weekend!
Fred
