[va-bird] Few more yard birds (Waynesboro -- Augusta Co.)

I was up early, hoping to hear the song of the Lincoln's Sparrow that I saw
last evening. No luck. There were vocal Chestnut-sided warblers about as
well as Black-throated Green, Parula and Yellow-rumped. A female Scarlet
Tanager, female Purple Finch and a lone Pine Siskin were seen. The most
unusual sighting, and a new yard bird, was a seemingly confused
Double-crested Cormorant (an uncommon spring and fall transient out here)
that was erratically wandering overhead, first in a southwesterly direction.
Seconds later it cruised over the house again, this time heading due north
and in an determined manner!

Tomorrow (May 4th) Augusta Bird Club members are participating in a big
spring day that will cover the many varied habitats of Augusta County.
Allen Larner is directing and coordinating this popular annual event. Stay
tuned for his report next week as it could be a comprehensive snapshot of
spring arrivals and transients as well as lingering winter birds in the
mountains and valleys area of Virginia.
