Greetings,
Singing Canada, Nashville, Chestnut-sided (3), BT Blue (2), BT Green (4), Blk
& White among the 12 warbler species seen/heard in the drizzle this morning
at the Deep Cut area of the Battlefield. A Swainson's Thrush was sitting near
a Wood Thrush. Two Yellow-billed Cuckoos were heard. Lots of Box Turtles out
and about along the trail, including several "couples".
Special moment: While I was sitting in the car at the Deep Cut parking area,
waiting for the rain to subside, a Solitary Sandpiper flew in and landed
right next to the car. Talk about up close and personal. The bird proceeded
to feast on big, fat earthworms that had come onto the asphalt. I've never
seen a solitary in the parking lot before. While the bird was dining, a pair
of Green Herons continuously flew around the little pond and parking area. I
assume they were doing the courtship thing. Certainly was fun to watch!
Quite an active, rainy morning.
