FYI, 2 ibis were present this morning from about 8:45
when Jodi Bucknam and I first saw them until 9:30
when we left the marsh. We aren't sure what species
we were seeing. The ibis spent most of the time on
the opposite (west) side of the marsh edge but on a
couple of occasions flew toward the boardwalk side.
They mostly fed, probing the mud with their long,
curved bills but at one point the ibis rested and
preened.

These birds may have been different individuals then
the ones I saw last week. Today, we noted that one
bird had a red face but a thin white stripe around it.
The legs appeared dull colored. The other bird had a
gray face with a thick white line around it. Its legs
had a reddish tint. Is the red faced bird a
White-faced Ibis? Is the other bird a Glossy? I
don't have my Sibley guide with me today.

When we arrived in the parking lot we were told by
another birder that the (same two?) ibis were seen
this morning before sunrise but then disappeared into
the vegetation on the far side of the marsh.

Some other highlights:
-RING-NECKED DUCK, 1m
-AM. BLACK DUCK, 1
-both teal sp.
-lots of shorebirds - KILLDEER, GR. YELLOWLEGS, LSR.
YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPER (12+), SPOTTED
SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, WILSON'S SNIPE.
-R.T. HUMMINGBIRD
-R.E. VIREO
-GR. CATBIRD
-warblers incl. BLUE-WINGED, lots of COM. YELLOWTHROAT
in marsh. They must still be migrating through.
-lots of SWAMP and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS still
around
-BLUE GROSBEAK (?). I think I heard one sing in the
direction of the meadow.
-RUSTY BLACKBIRD
-PURPLE FINCH

Happy birding,

S. Baron, Fairfax
J. Bucknam, Reston
