I visited Possum Pt/Cockpit Pt. Roads and Occoquan NWR this morning, and
finished up in the rain. Highlights were numerous yellow-throated and black
and white warblers, 4 Louisiana waterthrushes, Cooper's hawk and hermit thrush
along the Pts., and king rail, kestrel, barn swallow, rusty blackbird, and
eastern meadowlark at Occoquan NWR. The king rail was calling right along
Charlie Rd at the marsh, and even wandered into the open for some great
close-up looks. There were lots of sparrows at Occoquan, with numerous song,
white-throated, swamp and field, and a few savannah and eastern towhee. No
sign of the vesper seen yesterday.
