Howdy all,
Today was a much better day at the banding station. We had a large wave of
HERMIT THRUSHES, both KINGLETS, and more BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS today. PALM
WARBLERS were also a bit more abundant around the station as well. We also hear
a
WHIP-POOR-WILL early this morning. Still no Chuck's yet. We ended up catching
a total of 34 birds today. Now that's more like it!
We also caught a very large GARTER SNAKE today. It is possible the biggest
one I have ever seen and by far the prettiest. Great red tones to it.
Totals for 4/7:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 5
Golden-crowned Kinglet 3
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 5
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1
Yellow Palm Warbler 5
Eastern Phoebe 1
Song Sparrow 4
White-throated Sparrow 1 amazingly, our first of the season
Hermit Thrush 6
American Robin 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
Yellow-shafted Flicker 1
TOTAL ----------------------------- 34
Caught yet another NORTHERN PARULA that was banded last year. That makes
three so far! I like that too!
Cheers,
