I conducted my first survey of the season along the Hike-bike Trail at Huntley
Meadows Park this morning, April 2. Two Pine Warblers were singing near the
maintenance building and another two were in song along the Pond Trail. A pair
of Chipping Sparrows and two Dark-eyed Juncos were foraging in the grass, also
at the maintenance building, while two Eastern Phoebes investigated potential
nest locations.
Tree Swallows, a total of 21 of them, were investigating nestboxes in all the
meadows and 2 Northern Rough-winged Swallows foraged over the Central Marsh.
Three Hermit Thrushes were spotted in the wooded area along the road from the
maintenance building leading to the first meadow.
Five GC Kinglets foraged together in the Main Meadow and a single RC Kinglet
was present near the first meadow. I also observed the usual suspects,
including American Crows with nesting material, as well.
