[va-bird] Burrowing Owl call

It's been a long time since I heard one, so I can't say that I'm very
familiar with the call of this species, but I can say that Eastern Screech-Owls
can
make some very strange sounds that don't come even close to their classic trill
or bouncing-ball calls. At our place in Shenandoah County, where they are
fairly common, we have heard them scream like a wildcat and make a sort of
growling call. They also use an uncommon call when they have young out of the
nest.
In each of these cases, we saw the birds, so we know they were screech-owls.
Even if a Burrowing Owl were to appear here, it seems unlikely that it would
frequent a woodland area instead of an open place. Forty years ago, while
quail hunting with my friends in southern Illinois we flushed (and shot
thinking
it was a Bobwhite) a Burrowing Owl, but that's still a long way west of eastern
Virginia.
