[va-bird] Vesper Sparrow/Dyke Marsh/April4

This morning at Dyke Marsh, Alexandria, around 8:15am, there was a VESPER
SPARROW foraging on the ground in the south picnic area. The bird was close to
the water and would occaisionally hop onto the rocks...I watched the bird for
10 minutes in the bright sun as it scatched and scraped...didn' t seem too
intent on leaving as it would only fly a few feet away if I approached too
closely...
Some other nice birds along the trail included my first BG GNATS ( at least
3) -one BROWN THRASHER, and in the small gut 2 RING-NECKED DUCK (m&f) and one
PB GREBE - one TV drifted overhead, followed by one BLACK VULTURE...
Work to clean up the boardwalk has turned much of the trail to muck...wear
boots...good news is that the crew seems to have removed ALL of the boardwalk
pieces from the peninsula, except for one large piece of a platform...hope they
grade the trail when they're done!
