[va-bird] Caspian Terns/Dyke Marsh

From the stone bridge on the GW Parkway, just south of Old Town, Alexandria,
I spied 8 Caspian Terns on the flats west of the bridge - best to get while
the getting's good - interchange work for RT 1 and the new and improved Wilson
Bridge is in full swing and who knows what will happen with this beautiful
little estuary - they've already "built" a gravel road into some of the prime
shorebird area and those boys sure do like their Tonka trucks - no lack of
heavy
equipment. Early evening low tides will probably afford the best viewing.
Two Brown Thrashers were singing on the Haul Rd. close to the start - the
birds were less than 100 yards apart. Spring is bringing the marsh around again
after Isabel and it will be interesting to see what some of the new treeless
spots will bring...Rich Rieger
