VA Birders,
At Burke Lake near noon today, I noted 50 Common Loon in breeding plumage.
Considering this body of water is not that big, this assemblege was damn
impressive! Also present on this windy day were 5 Pied-billed Grebe, 1 Horned
Grebe, 1 Great Blue Heron, 250 DC Cormorants, 8 Canada Goose, 12 American
Wigeon, 2 Bufflehead, 4 Am. Coot, 30 Boneparte's Gull, 20 Ring-billed Gull, 30
Herring Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull (adult, summer), 12 Tree Swallows and
a small assortment of strange mutations. It was a fine place for a short visit!
