VA Birders,
Since it was on my way home from our NVBC walk at Huntley Meadows this
morning, I decided to make a brief stop at Fort C.F. Smith Park in Arlington.
My brief stop turned into 2.5 hours, during which time I saw over 30 species of
birds! Highlights were the pair of Eastern Bluebirds which have been seen in
the park for more than 2 weeks now, a singing Brown Thrasher, and several
species of raptors. The latter included an adult Red-shouldered Hawk, which
has
been seen carrying nesting material, an immature Bald Eagle, and Cooper's and
Red-tailed Hawks (one of each). In addition, I counted 10 Turkey Vultures and
1 Black Vulture.
