Just a note that the Saturday afternoon paper session to be held during the
VSO annual meeting April 30-May 2 in Lynchburg is full to capacity.  Topics
covered will be a retrospective on the life of Ruskin Freer, founding member
of the VSO, wind energy development in Virginia, a synopsis of 100 years of
Christmas Bird Counts in Virginia, Bald Eagle diet on the Chesapeake Bay, a
historical look at Virginia's bird life during the Colonial period, an
analysis of the role of catbird song in revealing  the quality of a male's
parental care, methods of selecting and ranking bird species in greatest
need of conservation statewide, and a status report on the Important Bird
Areas program in Virginia.  
 

We hope many of you can join us for three days of birding during spring
migration in the southern piedmont and on the Blue Ridge.  Information on
field trips, registration, etc are in the current VSO newsletter, and
