[va-bird] Inland Ponds

Greetings,
About the only good thing that usually seems to result from weather like
we've been having this week is that unusual waterbirds sometimes get dumped
into
unlikely, inland, bodies of water.
I've checked a group of lakes in Fauquier most days this week, and haven't
kicked up much of note. There's two gorgeous Common Loons on one private 100
acre lake, they arrived 1 April and were seen again today. An adult basic
Bonaparte's Gull was seen there today, and there's a Red-necked Grebe here as
well,
discovered 27 March.
At Germantown Lake, another 100 acre body of water, there's only been a
single Horned Grebe, and two adult Double-crested Cormorants.
In the past some of these birds have hung around for days, usually the loons
and grebes, whereas the sea ducks tend to take off again after it clears up.
Still might be worth routing in a few ponds into tomorrow morning's rounds.
Happy hunting,
Todd
