[va-bird] Huntley Meadows, Fairfax Co., Apr. 11

I spent the early evening last night at Huntley
Meadows and saw much the same as Ben Jesup and Bart
Hutchinson saw there this morning. I used the back
entrance, hoping for Am. Woodcock but not seeing or
hearing any. Another gentleman that I ran into said
he had been coming to Huntley lately and hadn't seen
the woodcock on his visits, either.
Migrant Gnatcatchers, Hermit Thrushes, Yellow-rumped
and (Yellow) Palm Warblers were in evidence. A good
variety of waterfowl were in the marsh, too.
There was a lot more bird activity than I expected,
considering I didn't arrive until 6:30PM. It was a
very enjoyable evening, despite the cool temperature
and off and on mist.
S. Baron
Fairfax, Va.
