Very strong northeast winds today, April 7th, caused tremendous swells and
waves, which were crashing over the guardrails at the Chesapeake Bay
bridge-tunnel. The rain was moderate to very heavy. The channels were full of
hundreds of scoters and gannets. There were dozens of Bonaparte's Gulls,
Purple Sandpipers and Red-breasted Mergansers, a few Common, Forster's and
Royal Terns, some Lesser Scaup and a Long-tailed Duck.Tree Swallows were
headed south across the Bay. There was a female Harlequin Duck and 2 female
Common Eiders.
