[va-bird] Virginia Beach birds

Stumpy Lake in Virginia Beach was very active with Chipping Sparrows and Blue
Gray Gnatcatchers today. The Gnatcatchers were very vocal and a couple could
be seen with nesting material. I was hoping for some Parulas and perhaps a
Black & White Warbler...oh well...I will just have to go back! :-)
Redwing Lake (as seen from Dam Neck Navy Base by the Navy Lodge) had a Common
Loon in breeding plumage. He was hanging out with the DC Cormorants and
showing them the proper way to bathe. There were also 6 Great Blue Herons all
hunkered down in a tree on the edge of the lake. The Osprey did a fly by
hunting for food. We have found this is a great location to watch Osprey in
the summer and have seen as many as 5 at a time.
